Rear Extension with glazed overhang
The client brief was to substantially extend the kitchen and dining space, with a modern feel and with plenty of external light. With such a broad brief, 3D modelling was the only real alternative, as there are so many options. After discussion, it was clear the client loved the beautiful garden, even on rainy days. So, once we scoped the space available, we realised the potential to extend the kitchen space, with the additional acope of bringing occasional dining and seating
Here are just some of the images of the design stage, where these and associated ‘walkthrough videos’ were regularly sent to the client via messaging apps, to facilitate rapid communication and feedback. The clients were delighted with the end result.
Music Studio in rear garden. Client feedback ‘We are buzzing over the design, 10 out of 10′.
This client wanted a modern music studio, with both a live room and a control room. The design needed to take account of the available space after incorporating adequate driveway, new storage and bin areas. The potential build method also needed to be considered, due to the proximity of an existing retaining wall. Below are rendered images which were used to collaborate with the client on the design. Many images and videos were supplied to the client via messaging and email during the design, as this helps proper visualisation of the likely outcome.
Rear extension with unique glass and slate roof. Client feedback ’10+ out of 10 for the work carried out, it was way above expectation’.
This client wanted a 4 metre single storey rear extension, but with a unique roof design. There was a particular requirement for a slate and glass roof externally, with oak roof joists being fully visible underneath. This required all the roof elements to be built entirely on top of the joists, including the plasterboard. Using both our design and local construction partners, we devised an excellent solution for the extension and roof, which the client was very pleased with.
Providing the client with 3D images and videos throughout the design process, is particularly beneficial in these more complex situations.
Rear extensions for kitchen/diner, utility and WC, with extra spacious feel.
This general design has been applied to multiple of our client homes, especially where existing space is limited but a spacious feel is required. Here are 2 such examples. The primary design objective in each case was to create a spacious-feeling rear extension incorporating kitchen/diner, but also a separate utility and WC. Width was a key limitation.
One good way to help the feeling of space in an extension, is to deploy a vaulted ceiling whereby the ceiling follows the roof slope instead of being flat. There are several key considerations though, to assess the feasibility, but in this case, they were positive. The vaulted ceiling element was only used across the kitchen/diner element of the extension for optimal design reasons.
The length of each of these extensions was beyond the standard ‘permitted development’ rules, so planning permission was needed. We believe where this type of design can be deployed effectively, it often offers an improved outcome as compared to typical rear extension designs.
